What is your favorite camp scully memory?
Its difficult to chose just one memory as I had such an amazing summer at camp in 2006. I think one of the events which sticks in my mind is the closing ceremonies each week... especially the part outside the chapel, with Mike playing the guitar and everyone holding a candle. These were always a great way to round off the week and give everyone chance to reflect on everything they had done during the week at camp. And just a small memory was trying to tell one of the boys from cabin one that to go to the toilet he needed to take a 'buddy' but with my english accent he thought i'd said he needed to take a 'birdie' and no matter how i said it he didnt understand, I had to get someone else to translate from English to American!
Why do you love Camp Scully?
I love Camp Scully because it gave me the chance to spend a summer in America and experience the different culture. It was also clear to see everyday that the children at camp got so much out of being there and it was amazing to be part of a team enabling camp to happen. I hope that one day I will be able to come and visit.
What do you do when you're not at Camp?
I graduated from University this summer and have just started a post graduate training scheme. I'm training to be a clinical engineer, which means that over the next two years I will learn how to design and develop medical equipment to be used in hospitals and also devices for disabled persons to use at home.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to work in the field of assistive technology, which is the developing of devices to help disabled people maintain independence. So its adapting things in the home, such as a kettle, so someone with a limb deformity can use it. Ideally I would like to work with children and try to improve their lifes by making things easier for them, and allowing them to have a normal childhood as much as possible.
